Summary of MMP2

The MMP2 gene encodes an enzyme called matrix metallopeptidase 2. It is part of the extracellular matrix and help breakdown the uterine lining during menstruation, form new blood vessels, repair damaged tissues, bone remodeling, and inflammation (R).

The Function of MMP2

Isoform 2: Mediates the proteolysis of CHUK/IKKA and initiates a primary innate immune response by inducing mitochondrial-nuclear stress signaling with activation of the pro-inflammatory NF-kappaB, NFAT and IRF transcriptional pathways.
